FreedomWorks for America to Sen. Hatch: "Stop Misleading Voters"

Utah Senator Falsely Claims Tea Party Endorsement

SALT LAKE CITY, March 14, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Ahead of Thursday's caucuses in Utah, Sen. Orrin Hatch this week falsely claimed that a national Tea Party organization, the Tea Party Express, had endorsed him for reelection. Today, FreedomWorks for America called on Sen. Hatch to stop misleading Utah voters.

During a nationally syndicated radio program, Sen. Hatch claimed that the Tea Party Express, one of the largest Tea Party groups in the country, supported his candidacy. "Oh yeah, we're going to get a lot of Tea Party people," said Sen. Hatch. "Tea Party Express, which is the largest Tea Party group, has endorsed me." But the Tea Party Express has not endorsed Sen. Hatch.

"This is one more attempt by Sen. Hatch to obfuscate reality with rhetoric and divert attention away from his record," said Russ Walker National Political Director for FreedomWorks for America. "Utah voters deserve honesty from their elected representatives in Washington so that they can make an informed decision on caucus night. Sen. Hatch should retract his false statement."

"Sen. Hatch has been trying to cozy up to the Tea Party movement ever since it proved it represented the concerns of millions of Americans in the 2010 elections," Walker added. "But as the consummate Washington insider, Sen. Hatch has a record that is decidedly opposed to the goals of the Tea Party. That is why no Tea Party organization has endorsed his candidacy. It's time for Sen. Hatch to stop misleading the voters of Utah."

FreedomWorks for America is a unique Super PAC aimed at empowering the leaderless, decentralized community of limited government, conservatives as it continues to return the GOP to its constitutional roots. As a service center for limited-government activists across the country, FreedomWorks played a key role in the upset victories of Sens. Mike Lee (Utah), Marco Rubio (Fla.), Rand Paul (Ky.), and in taking back control of the House of Representatives for Republicans in 2010.
