AFGE Strongly Supports Rep. Ellison for DNC Chair

Minnesota Congressman has shown 'unwavering support' to federal employees and all working people

WASHINGTON, Dec. 15, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Federation of Government Employees strongly supports Rep. Keith Ellison's bid to become chair of the Democratic National Committee, said AFGE National President J. David Cox Sr.

"Congressman Ellison has shown unwavering support for federal employees and for the work that we do on behalf of the American public. He is a champion of working people across this country and understands that we need to focus more on the bread and butter issues that affect everyone: living wages, affordable healthcare, universal access to higher education, and income security in retirement.

"When Republicans shut down the federal government in 2013, one of the first calls I got was from Congressman Ellison. He knew that the shutdown was hurting millions of workers and their families. Keith's leadership united us, focused us on our common goal, and accomplished the task at hand.

"Congressman Ellison is a fierce advocate for all working people and is exactly the leader the Democratic Party requires if it truly wants to represent all working people."

The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) is the largest federal employee union, representing 670,000 workers in the federal government and the government of the District of Columbia.
