TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, Nov. 29, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, the government of the Republic of Honduras thanked the people of Honduras, the national and international electoral observers, and the country's political parties for helping Honduras carry out a peaceful, democratic election last Sunday.
The TSE is continuing to count ballots from across Honduras as they arrive at TSE headquarters in Tegucigalpa. Electoral observers from the European Union and the Organization of American States are monitoring the vote counting.
At a press conference Monday, Jorge Quiroga, head of the Electoral Observers Mission from the Organization of American States and a former president of Bolivia, asked Hondurans to remain calm while the ballots are counted. "We are calling for a continued spirit of tranquility in the hours to come, until the final vote is counted," he said in remarks reported by Honduran media.
Quiroga said that 2.4 million ballots, or about 43 percent of all votes cast, had yet to be processed.
"There has been a partial count in the presidential election, the results are close, we must process the rest of the records to respect the public's will," Quiroga said.
Quiroga also said that every political party who participated in the election will receive a copy of TSE's final election report in order to confirm the results.
