PSP Inc. Brings Japanese Students Affected by Earthquake to Seattle

BELLEVUE, Wash., March 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- In their continuing support of the areas of Japan devastated by last year's earthquake and tsunami, at this time Pacific Software Publishing (PSP Inc.) is sponsoring the Summer Experience in Seattle program, which will bring eight students and two teachers from the towns of Kesennuma and Minamisanriku-cho to come tour Seattle from July 27 through August 7. These children are the victims of Tsunami, who lost one of their parents during the disaster.

In November of 2011, CEO Mayumi Nakamura visited the two towns, both of which had been devastated by tsunami and lost more than half of their 8,000 residents. The trip gave her a renewed sense of purpose and desire to make a difference in the affected communities. She met with the local teachers and Board of Education, and together they organized the program. "Through their visit and their experiences, the children from these devastated areas will create once-in-a-lifetime memories which, it is hoped, will go a long way toward restoring their enthusiasm and dreams for the future," said Ms. Nakamura. "We intend to continue hosting this program into the future, so as to continue helping the children of Minamisanriku and Kesennuma."

PSP Inc. has received the cooperation and support of several businesses for Summer Experience in Seattle:

  • Delta Airlines Japan
  • Global Education Network
  • The Marriott Hotel in Redmond Town Center
  • Enterprise Rental Cars
  • Pacific Science Center
  • Holland America Line
  • Argosy Cruises

This is only the latest in PSP's steadfast efforts to support Japan. Soon after news of the 9.0 magnitude earthquake, one of the strongest ever recorded, reached the United States on March 11, 2011, PSP Inc. announced they would match donations to the Red Cross up to $10,000, within 48 hours they had met their goal. By the end of the donation drive, $70,000 in donations were raised and matched. Even with this huge fundraising success, the staff never stopped pursuing ways to help relief efforts, which is what led the company to organize the Summer Experience in Seattle program.
