Backyard Beer Garden: New Concept For Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA, May 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Avram Hornik, Mark Fichera and Joseph Crouse of Four Corners Management, Sean Agnew of R5 Productions, Dave Pianka of Making Time, and The Bowery Presents announced today that they are opening a new beer garden in Philadelphia, to be called Morgan's Pier. Morgan's Pier, named after the first person to cross the Ben Franklin Bridge, was developed by the group as a part of the rejuvenation of the Delaware river waterfront. This seasonal venue offers a spacious backyard beer garden that boasts a foodie picnic menu and an array of live entertainment. Located at 221 N. Columbus Blvd, steps from the Ben Franklin Bridge, Morgan's Pier will open on Friday, May 25th, 2012.
David Fierabend of Groundswell Design Group took classic elements such as wooden picnic tables, vintage umbrellas and market lights and combined them with urban materials like welded box wire and salvaged wood to create an outdoor setting that is both inviting and original. An abundance of greenery, including Linden Trees, provide an engaging environment overlooking the Delaware River.
The menu, developed by David Katz, will be served until 11pm nightly and includes Fried Jersey Tomatoes, Snack Bacon, Grilled Pork & Ramp Sausage Sandwich, Hamburgers, and Vegan "Chorizo" Tacos. All food items are priced below $10.00 and are made from fresh, seasonal ingredients. A hot dog stand and an ice cream tricycle, serving Philly's own Little Baby's Ice Cream, will also be stationed on the deck.
David has invited other prominent, Philadelphia chefs to Morgan's Pier for a series of events this summer. Chefs such as Michael Solomonov (Zahav, Percy Street Barbecue, & Federal Donuts,), Terence Feury (Fork Restaurant) and Kevin Sbraga (Sbraga) will each spend a day at the pier sharing their idea of the perfect, summer Bar-B-Que.
The Morgan's Pier all domestic craft beer bar will showcase a rotating selection of 20 drafts from regional brewers like Dogfish Head, Troegs Brewing Company and more than 20 craft cans. The bar will also offer great summer wines, signature cocktails and a full liquor bar.
The stage at Morgan's Pier will feature a hand-picked cast of international and local DJs curated by Making Time's Dave Pianka, as well as a free Saturday afternoon concert series booked by R5 Productions, starting with Philadelphia's own Bleeding Rainbow on June 9th. In addition, every Sunday at 3pm, the deck will host the Sundae Open Air Dance Party, presented by Lee Jones.
Memorial Day Weekend features:
May 25th – Grand Opening
May 26th - DJs Dave P. and Sammy Slice
May 27th - The Sundae Open Air Dance Party featuring DJ Rich Medina
The space is named Morgan's Pier as a nod to construction worker George C. Morgan who was the first person to cross the span of the Ben Franklin Bridge. Morgan did so by trekking the final 50 feet of the still incomplete foot bridge on a bare support cable 400 feet in the air. He was fired on-the-spot.
Situated at the convergence of Philadelphia's historical district and the Northern Liberties nightlife corridor, Morgan's Pier is only a few minutes' walk, ride or drive from some of the city's most vibrant neighborhoods and adjacent to key highways and public transit.
Morgan's Pier will also be available for private events both large and small.
