Hospice Foundation of America Grief Webinar Series Starts With Focus on Understanding the Ways Men and Women Grieve
NEW YORK, Aug. 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Hospice Foundation of America (HFA) will present a live, online webinar focusing on Beyond Gender: Understanding the Ways Men and Women Grieve on Tuesday, August 21 from noon—1:30pm ET.
Kenneth Doka, PhD, MDiv, and Dr. Terry Martin, PhD will discuss the many ways that grief is expressed, emphasizing that each of these patterns has distinct advantages and disadvantages. Dr. Doka and Dr. Martin co-authored the groundbreaking work, Men Don't Cry…Women Do: Transcending Gender Stereotypes of Grief in 2000, followed by a 2010 edition, Grieving Beyond Gender: Understanding the Ways Men and Women Mourn.
"Many family members, and even some clinicians, believe that if a grieving person does not show or share sadness or express other emotions that the person is not in touch with, or is suppressing, grief," said Amy Tucci, President and CEO of HFA. "In fact, many men and some women may not appear emotional in their grief but instead express their grief through thoughts and actions." During the program, the panelists will share the most current research on a continuum of grieving styles and discuss different patterns of grief and the ways that each pattern can facilitate or complicate the grieving process. The program will also focus on interventive techniques suitable for each pattern.
Webinar participants will have the opportunity to ask the panel questions during the live program. Registration is $85 for an organization or $35 for individuals; a wide range of continuing education credits (CEs) are included. Registration also includes access to the program online for one year after the original air date. This program is the first of a five-part series focusing on grief. The full series can be purchased at a discounted price: $375 for organizations or $150 for individuals.
