ClimeCo and Green Hub Advisors recommend emphasis on new funding sources and energy efficiency projects to reduce carbon footprint along U.S.-Mexico border
MIAMI, June 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Following an analysis of the Center for Climate Strategies (CCS) Gas Emissions and Case Projections of 1990-2025 report, ClimeCo Corporation and Green Hub Advisors presented their recommendations for a white paper compiled by the Border Environment Cooperation Commission (BECC) focused on carbon emission reductions derived from clean and efficient energy projects along the U.S.-Mexico border.
Recommendations published within this white paper will be used by the six Mexican border States to draft State Climate Action Plans in support of the U.S.-Mexico Border Environmental Program: Border 2020 and potential new funding sources for implementation of clean and efficient energy projects.
Among its recommendations, ClimeCo suggested that two particular actions be given highest priority: the development of a broader set of funding options and the roll-out of a comprehensive energy efficiency initiative.
"We are very pleased to have participated in this project with Green Hub and BECC," commented Yuda Saydun, President of ClimeCo. "Given BECC's exceptional track record, we are confident this will be another successful initiative with significant impact on air quality and environment in the border region."
The BECC white paper outlines several tools to construct the building blocks for an environment where new initiatives can operate at reasonable profit levels. In broad terms, these can be classified into four groups:
- Capacity building for public and private entities
- A framework of policy instruments
- Mitigation projects
- A concerted effort to deploy energy efficiency and clean technologies
"Combining energy efficiency projects and innovative financing tools provide the best way to make substantial carbon emission reductions from multiple projects," stated Scott D. Storment, Principal of Green Hub Advisors.
"Our studies and publications have helped target and identify mitigation policies such as energy efficiency, renewable energy, and transportation and create conditions for future projects," said Maria Elena Giner, General Manager of the Border Environment Cooperation Commission. "Within the last couple of years, we have worked at providing technical assistance and certification for solar energy parks, wind farm parks, and paving projects in the U.S.-Mexico border region that will greatly enhance water conservation and reduce greenhouse gas emissions."
BECC works to preserve, protect and enhance human health and the environment of the U.S.-Mexico border region through a transparent bi-national process in close coordination with NADB, federal, state and local agencies, the private sector and civil society.
