USW Joins Oakland Rally Telling BART to Get Better Jobs Deal
OAKLAND, Calif., May 9, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The California director of the United Steelworkers (USW) is mobilizing union members to join a Thursday rally, May 10, at 8:00 am (PDT) outside of the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) board room in Kaiser Center, 20th Street Mall, 3rd Floor, 344-20th St. in Oakland to tell the executives to get a better jobs deal.
The BART board of directors is scheduled to vote on a $2.5 billion contract to build a fleet of modern rail cars.
Bob LaVenture, Director for USW District 12, says the USW and a coalition of Bay area supporters want BART to bring the top two bidders back to the table and insist the train cars are made in America to benefit taxpayers and to sustain the domestic economy by keeping jobs here.
