NovaStar Achieves R2 Certification

LIVONIA, Mich., Jan. 31, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Continuing its commitment to quality and the environment, NovaStar, the leader in I.T. hardware lifecycle management, is pleased to announce it has earned R2 Certification from Orion Registrar, Inc.

The R2 Standard is a set of guidelines for use by both electronics refurbishers and recyclers to promote better environmental, health and safety, and security practices when handling end-of-life electronics.  The guidelines cover IT equipment including computers and peripheral parts sent to equipment processors for proper refurbishment and recycling. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) facilitated development of R2 in an open process. Stakeholders supporting the R2 practices include representatives from federal and state governments, electronics manufacturers, electronics refurbishing and recycling professionals, and trade associations.

To achieve R2 Certification, NovaStar demonstrated that during the company's process of remarketing and refurbishing pre-owned computers that it complies with stringent data security measures, protects the environment thru equipment reuse and proper downstream e-waste disposal, and addresses safety objectives and targets for the benefit of its business partners, employees and community.

"NovaStar is a company devoted to quality and sustainability and with this certification we are taking another important step forward," said David Baumgarten, Founder and President of NovaStar "Our staff is dedicated to eliminating our impact on the environment and protecting customer data while making continuous process improvements to achieve that. With over 95% of the computer assets sent to NovaStar being refurbished and resold on the secondary market, it just underscores the high level of service our customers have come to know and expect."

NovaStar also maintains ISO 14001:2004 Certification as well as ISO 17025:2005 Accreditation in its metrology laboratory.
