America's Largest Local Bike Shop Opens 11th Store in Northern California
Mike's Bikes is getting more people on bikes and further supporting philanthropic and advocacy causes by opening 11th store.
PLEASANTON, Calif., Aug. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Mike's Bikes, locally owned and operated since 1964, will open its 11th Northern California store on August 3rd in Pleasanton. At 6754 Bernal Ave., it will connect the 580 and 680 corridors with the very best cycling has to offer.
Ken Martin, co-owner and CEO, said he is proud to grow the Mike's Bikes family by serving an all-new community of customers with the help of Specialized Bicycles.
"After years of planning, the time was finally right to bring our brand of service and a great new Specialized presence to the Tri-Valley, and we're super excited to learn the roads and trails around our new neighborhood," Ken said. "Our friends at Specialized Bicycles helped us on the design of the Pleasanton store, our second so far in 2012, and it might just be our best work yet."
The company has built a strong community and advocacy presence, with a particular passion for their Africa Projects, which involves collecting customers' old bicycles and shipping them in containers to the developing countries of Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and Lesotho. Mike's Bikes staffers spend time in Africa annually to build and empower locally-owned community bike shops, with the goal of kick-starting the bike culture in Africa, one bike at at time.
Mike's Bikes currently operates 11 stores throughout Northern California, is the largest local bike shop in America, and holds the title as #1 retailer in the US for both Specialized and Raleigh. Mike's employs over 250 cycling enthusiasts in the area, all with the singular goal of getting more people involved in the cycling community.
The new 7000 square foot store in Pleasanton will display almost 300 bikes, ranging from $300 - $15,000. Matt Adams, co-owner and President, said "We're really aiming to be a bike shop for all people. If you share our passion for bikes, or even if you're just thinking about getting into it, we'll work very hard to deliver an awesome experience, both here in the store, and out on your bike."
