New iPhone APP SEALReady lets you test your meddle to see if you have what it takes physically to get your foot in the door!
CHESAPEAKE, Va., May 2, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Former Navy Diver, Marty Costello conceived the idea to write an APP for the iPhone that would guide the user through a simulated published physical screening regimen that is used by the Navy for candidates for SEALs, Divers, EOD, Surface Warfare Combatant Crew and Air Rescue Swimmers. "It's like a mini-triathlon without the bike," said Costello. "When you tell a good swimmer that it starts with a 500 yard swim under 12:30 you get a chuckle, but when you tell them that it's a side stroke and your hands can't break the surface, then you get a hum." Following the swim is a short rest period then a person has to complete as many push-ups as he can under two minutes. "I challenged the iPhone program APP writers and coders to figure out where the sensors indicated a proper military push-up and they nailed it. We did the same for the sit-ups and pull-ups in the same manner but each a little differently." The iPhone is worn with an armband and optionally a waterproof case and ear buds can be used for the swim session.
Following the exercises is a 1.5 mile run tracked by GPS. Upon completion, a formula is running in the background recording the person's performance and a scored report is completed at the end of the run to be emailed for tracking. "Two of the coolest features includes a female voice-over guiding you through the times, rest periods, distances remaining and all the while you can jam to your motivational music." One warning, this is only a simulation. Under a real supervised physical screening test, there are other stressors including competition. "Most fitness APPs are passive data loggers, you do your repetitions and enter the numbers. With SEALReady, the iPhone is being used interactively. I had this APP idea and wanted to give people the opportunity to see if they had what it takes physically on an entry level, the rest is on their own weather or not they decide to call a recruiter for the real deal."
SEALReady was just released last week on the iTunes Apple Store.
