The GLD ETF has fallen behind rival IAU in 2012 performance according to the latest Gold ETF Report from GoldETFs.biz. One of the reasons for IAU's outperformance is its expense ratio of .25%, versus GLD priced at .40%. For more detail view the GLD ETF profile page by visiting http://www.goldetfs.biz/gld
Gold ETF products tracking the price of physical gold have risen between 4.89% and 5.06% this year the report states. Although these products have moved downward from their 2012 highs, they may benefit over the long term from an increased level of geopolitical instability in Europe. "Gold ETF investors should tread lightly as political intrigue will likely loom large over the next few weeks pushing the value of currencies and hard assets back and forth," writes Christian Magoon, Publisher of GoldETFs.biz in the report. "For investors with a longer term time horizon however, attractive price points are likely to emerge during this latest EU flare up."
