Americans Pouring On Excess Calories Through Sugared Beverage Consumption
Nestle ® Pure Life ® Purified Water Launches its 2012 Hydration Movement Encouraging Families to Make a Commitment to Swap out one Sugared Beverage a Day for Water for a Year
STAMFORD, Conn., May 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- With Americans consuming nearly 800 calories per week from sugared beverages, it is no wonder that sugared beverages are the number 4 source of calories for Americans(1). To educate consumers on the importance of healthy hydration, today Nestle® Pure Life® is launching its 2012 Nestle Pure Life Hydration Movement. This initiative is an extension of the past two years' successful Pledge program where more than 99,000 families made a commitment to swap one sugared beverage a day for water for a year. This year, Nestle Pure Life is making it even easier for consumers to join the Movement by launching the Hydration Movement on Facebook.
By joining this year's Movement on the Nestle Pure Life Facebook page, participating consumers will pledge to swap one sugared beverage a day with water for a year to help eliminate 50,000 calories from their family's diet(2). The simple switch has encouraged the elimination of billions of calories from families' diets to-date. Participants will also receive one $1-off coupon toward the purchase of Nestle Pure Life Purified Water and have the opportunity to enter a sweepstakes to win a supply of free Nestle Pure Life bottled water for a year(3).
"Living a healthy lifestyle is often seen as eating right and exercising, but hydrating healthfully is extremely important," says Bonnie Taub-Dix, registered dietitian and author of Read It Before You Eat It. "It is more important than ever to teach families about smart beverage choices. Making a simple effort—such as joining the Nestle Pure Life Hydration Movement and taking the Pledge—is a small way to make a big impact on living a healthy lifestyle."
Consumers will be able to unite online with thousands of other people who have pledged to lead healthier lifestyles, engage with others who have taken the Pledge, share their own story with friends and family, and do it all on the Nestle Pure Life Facebook page. Participants will also be able to contribute stories and pictures about how taking the Pledge has affected their life.
"Nestle® Pure Life® is committed to helping families live a healthier life," says Maude Ancone Brand Manager, Nestle Pure Life. "The incredible success of the last two years' Hydration Movement programs demonstrates that families are willing to make simple changes toward a healthier lifestyle, and this year we hope to inspire thousands more and make it even easier for families to take the Pledge."
