2012 Department of Homeland Security Small Business Achievement Award given to Compass for Outstanding Performance
Compass Receives Prestigious Award by Improving Efficiency for Processing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Requests
VIENNA, Va., April 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Compass Systems Consulting, Inc. (Compass), a management consulting firm specializing in Performance Improvement, Program & Project Management, Acquisition Management & Audit, and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), announced today that it has received the 2012 Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Small Business Achievement Award for its outstanding work in support of the DHS mission. The award was presented to Compass at the 8th Annual Small Business Awards Ceremony, held on April 18, 2012.
Compass was nominated for the award by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for outstanding performance in support of CBP's Procurement Directorate in FY11. While the Compass support at CBP encompasses the four aforementioned practice areas, Compass was selected for this prestigious award for transforming how the Procurement Directorate processes FOIA requests. Compass developed and implemented a new centralized FOIA process in which Compass receives, catalogs, and processes all incoming FOIA requests, thus alleviating government procurement personnel of arduous and time-consuming FOIA requirements. With a team of Juris Doctorate & Bar Certified legal professionals, the Company provided sound recommendations with a sharp focus on the legal requirements and corresponding DHS regulations. The Compass FOIA team worked closely with its government counterparts to improve the efficiency and reduce the inherent risk of the Procurement Directorate's FOIA responsibilities.
"We won our first prime contract at CBP back in 2009, but our first 'lucky break' came two years earlier when ASI Government, Inc. invited us to team with them at this same client. I will be forever grateful of the opportunity ASI Government afforded us six years ago and today we consider them a strategic partner," commented Gustavo A. Calderon, President of Compass.
The annual DHS Small Business Achievement Award recognizes exceptional contributions to the homeland security mission by a select group of small business firms from across the country. The award is sponsored by the DHS Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU) and includes nominations and substantial participation by the broader DHS procurement community and program offices in DHS components.
