To Kill an Angry Bird - Ugly Meter Hits #1
GILBERT, Ariz., May 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Ugly Meter, for iPhone and iPad, has dominated all other apps in the iTunes app store and has claimed the #1 spot in the iTunes charts. Former leader Angry Birds Space, which was at the top of the charts since its release, has finally met a worthy challenger and fallen to number 2.
The advanced version, Ugly Meter Pro, scans the user's bone structure by measuring over 100 facial points and using the calculations to issue an attractiveness score on a 1-100 scale. It uses published science based on the Golden Ratio to mathematically calculate beauty. In 2012 alone, over 22 million faces have been scanned by the Ugly Meter, which allows users to tweet their scores and post them to Facebook to prove how beautiful or ugly they are.
"We couldn't be happier about Ugly Meter's success. We give credit to the Howard Stern Show for giving us exposure to the national media," says Jo Overline, lead programmer for Dapper Gentlemen. Co-Founder Ryan Allen followed with, "The only thing better than being #1 in iTunes would be having a better Ugly Meter score than I have now. Unfortunately I'll have to be happy with #1."
Several celebrities have been scanned with the Ugly Meter with the following scores:
- Howard Stern - 34/100
- Brad Pitt - 91/100
- Jay Leno - 11/100
- Beyonce Knowles - 92/100
- Mitt Romney - 66/100
- Barack Obama - 74/100
- Oprah Winfrey - 42/100
The Ugly Meter has been featured by Howard Stern, Fox News, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, Today Show, New York Post, Huffington Post, Daily Mail, and Jay Leno.
There is huge potential for developers in the App Store. Fellow developer Bryan Mitchell, who created the game Geared, has had over 17 million downloads and close to $1 million in sales. Though as the app store gets more competitive, it gets increasingly hard to reach staggering numbers like these. However, once in a while a unique product like Ugly Meter comes along and makes a big splash in the market.
