Amazon Web Services Publishes 2nd Watch Case Study on AR Technology on AWS
SEATTLE, May 4, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- 2nd Watch, Inc., an Amazon Web Services™ (AWS) Solution Provider, has had a case study published on Amazon Web Services' site. 2nd Watch conducted an analytical evaluation of Gravity Jack's existing cloud host in comparison to AWS and concluded that AWS far exceeded the previous host's capabilities while simultaneously reducing costs.
Gravity Jack is an augmented reality (AR) software development company based in Liberty Lake, Washington. The company's eighty employees focus on creating practical AR solutions to meet current and future business objectives. Gravity jack wanted to identify the most cost-effective, scalable, and versatile infrastructure available to support its rapid growth spurred by the global demand for AR technology. 2nd Watch determined AWS best fulfilled its need. Recent customer adoption of Gravity Jack's AR technology include, IndyCar, Mush a Bellies, MySpace and The Arnold Classic.
In late 2011, Gravity Jack finalized development on a patented hybrid technology called Quick Augmented Reality (QAR). The QAR codes are similar to the Quick Response (QR) matrix barcodes currently connecting consumers with a variety of mobile resources, such as coupons, contact information and websites. However, when viewed through Gravity Jack's new mobile application, browsAR, QAR codes trigger an AR experience, such as a virtual demonstration overlaid on a real product. Based on 2nd Watch's recommendation, the two companies immediately began migration from the previous cloud host to AWS. One week later, QAR and browsAR were successfully introduced into the Apple and Android markets. "Gravity Jack is growing immensely and really required a provider that would facilitate global scalability. We recommended Amazon Web Service because they are recognized as a leader in cloud computing from cost to product offering," stated Jeff Aden, President of 2nd Watch, Inc.
2nd Watch continues to monitor Gravity Jack's data and compute usage with Amazon CloudWatch, allowing the company to adjust service consumption in response to alarms that activate when predetermined thresholds have been crossed. With this ability Gravity Jack can reduce costs while ensuring that proper capacity is maintained.
2nd Watch's evaluation determined that AWS costs 22 percent less than upgrading Gravity Jack's former hosted services. Luke Richey, President and CEO of Gravity Jack, notes, "As a cutting edge, rapidly growing company, we knew that we needed a solution that was flexible with our growth and expansion, while still providing the strength and reliability we needed. AWS provided all this, along with a solution provider like 2nd Watch as a member of our team that is always ready to assist. It's clear from our experience already that we made the right choice."
