Nominations Open for San Francisco Business Times Health Care Heroes Awards

SAN FRANCISCO, May 1, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- The San Francisco Business Times is accepting nominations for its annual Health Care Heroes Awards until May 18. The awards honor health care professionals who go above and beyond to make the Bay Area healthier by delivering quality care, advocating for patients, developing new and innovative technology or educating the community about health issues.
Awards will be given in 15 categories, including one to a nurse, physician and technology leader who has created devices or technology that improve patient and care. The awards will also honor a local professional for his or her lifetime achievement. (For other categories, see the full list below.) Your Health Care Hero can be any of the following:
Nominate your Health Care Hero from any of the five Bay Area Counties: San Francisco, Marin, Contra Costa, San Mateo and Alameda using the San Francisco Business Times nomination form, which can be filled out online by going to http://www.bizjournals.com/sanfrancisco/nomination/23661.
The judges will base their choices solely on the nomination forms you submit. Make sure your nomination form includes many details and a history of achievements to show why your nominee deserves the award. The more robust the nomination form, the better chance your hero has of being named a Health Care Hero winner.

Categories for the Health Care Hero Awards are:
NURSE: Honors an individual who has made an extraordinary contribution to or impact on the field of nursing, above and beyond his or her job description.
PHYSICIAN: Honors a standout doctor in any specialty whose commitment to the profession and/or the community goes beyond his or her job description and has made a meaningful impact on individuals or communities.
COMMUNITY IMPACT: Honors a person or organization for innovative programs, campaigns or efforts that improve access to and the quality of medical services in Bay Area communities.
MENTAL HEALTH: Honors a doctor or professional whose commitment to the profession and/or the community goes beyond his or her job description and has made a meaningful impact on individuals or communities.
EMERGENCY MEDICAL: Honors an individual who has saved lives through acts of heroism, quick-thinking and/or action that goes above and beyond the call of duty.
SPORTS MEDICINE: Honors an individual or practice whose innovative approaches to treating sports-related injuries has made a significant impact to the lives of individuals or communities.
ALLIED OR NON-ACUTE CARE: Honors an individual in the health care field, other than a doctor or nurse, who demonstrates an exemplary commitment to patient care.
ALTERNATIVE HEALTH: Honors an individual or practice whose use of alternative medicine or therapies has made a significant impact on the lives of individuals or communities.
SAFETY: Honors an individual or practice that has made meaningful strides to improve the safety of hospitals, medical centers and of patients.
RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT: Honors an individual, institution or organization whose research saves lives, makes a meaningful contribution to curing or repressing disease or illness or directly improves quality of life of the sick.
TECHNICAL INNOVATION: Honors an individual, organization or institution that has created technology or devices that improve patient well-being.
FUNDRAISING: Honors an individual or organization whose efforts have led to the significant milestones for health care organizations including new centers or institutes, state-of-the-art equipment or research and development.
VOLUNTEER: Honors an individual whose selfless contribution to health care organizations or patients has made a lasting impact.
UNSUNG HERO: Honors a support staff person whose attitude, selflessness and/or above-and-beyond action makes a lasting impact on his or her organization and/or patients and their families.
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT: Honors an individual for his or her lifetime contribution to the improvement and advancement of health care.
