PHILADELPHIA, March 14, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Just when you thought the pastimes of old may be disappearing as iTechnology, the Cloud and apps galore make themselves ever more present in our daily lives, the The Handwork Studio comes to the rescue, saving your kids from the persistent lure of electronics, one stitch at a time. This rapidly expanding kids' needle arts and fashion community, based in Narberth, Pennsylvania, is transforming the fiber arts of our grandmothers' sitting rooms into a fresh, fun and totally cool take on sewing, knitting, fashion design and so much more.

With an impressive twenty-two camp locations in 2012 and six years of award-winning summer camp offerings under its fabulously accessorized belt, the Handwork Studio is coming to a school near you this summer. Choose from Handwork camp for ages 5-12, where your child will learn a bit of everything, from sewing, knitting, and crocheting to designing cuddly stuffed friends or accessories; or Machine Sewing & Fashion camp for ages 10-16, where your child will not only learn to use a sewing machine and walk away with their own sewing kit, but will also learn to read and use professional grade patterns and create dresses, skirts, tops, stuffed animals, bags, accessories and more. Each camp is project-based, ensuring that your child ends the week with newly learned skills, a collection of their own crafty creations, and a smile on their face.

Though it began as a weekly get-together at founder Laura Kelly's kitchen table for her daughter and friends, The Handwork Studio now hosts over 1,000 kids per summer, transforming the world of needle arts for young people and teaching all of us that traditional practices don't have to stay in the past. These unique and engaging camps are conducted in a caring and supportive environment, faithfully carrying on Kelly's vision of children's education that truly nurtures, teaching a new generation of needle artists and fashion designers and fostering creativity along the way.
