Beginning this fall, George Fox will offer two ways to complete the 42-credit-hour program – by either attending class one night per week from 6 to 9:30 p.m. (and limited Saturdays) or, beginning in January of 2013, approximately every other Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The program is classroom-based with an online component.
In addition, students will have the opportunity to choose from one of four concentration tracks – in finance, organizational strategy, strategic human resource management, or management and leadership – during their second year in the program. Each concentration consists of three three-credit courses.
Classes meet at the university's Portland Center near Tigard, located at 12753 S.W. 68th Ave., in Portland. New cohorts begin each fall and spring, with this fall's program set to begin in late August. In addition to the concentrations, the curriculum includes an optional weeklong international study trip.
More information and enrollment details are available at business.georgefox.edu or by attending one of the program's scheduled information events at the Portland Center. Information meetings are an opportunity to hear more about the curriculum from an MBA faculty member and to interact with current students or alumni.
The next information meeting is set for Tuesday, June 26, between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. Another information session is scheduled on Tuesday, July 10, at the same time and location. The application deadline for fall 2012 is Wednesday, Aug. 1.
The program is designed for working professionals seeking to become more effective managers and leaders. The George Fox Part-Time MBA emphasizes leadership, interpersonal communication, ethics, and social responsibility. Class discussions and readings are balanced with projects and case studies to demonstrate how theory is applied in the real world.
The curriculum also allows for the opportunity to study aboard. Last May, a group of 15 students, two faculty members and six guests traveled to Beijing, China, to represent the university's School of Business as part of an international residency class that provides participants an opportunity to study global business outside the classroom.
Since the study-abroad program's inception in 2004, nearly 200 George Fox business graduate students have made the weeklong trips to locales including Brazil (2004-06), Shanghai, China (2007-09) and Beijing and Tianjin, China (2010-11).
