Ventyx Closes Multimillion Dollar Network Control Deals with Leading Utilities in Latin America
Selection of Ventyx SCADA/EMS solutions by power companies in Chile and Uruguay signals growing momentum in region
ATLANTA, May 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Ventyx, an ABB company, today announced it has signed significant multimillion dollar deals with two leading Latin American power companies. The new contracts, with CDEC-SIC in Chile and UTE in Uruguay, highlight the growing momentum behind the company's robust software solutions in this expanding market.
At each utility company, Ventyx will provide a complete control center solution for the secure, efficient and reliable management of their electric networks using the Ventyx Network Manager™ SCADA/Energy Management System (EMS) solution.
In Chile, the solution will be implemented at CDEC-SIC, an independent system operator (ISO) responsible for coordinating the operation of the electrical system that covers 92 percent of the population of Chile, and whose coverage extends more than 2,000 kilometers across the southern and central regions of the country.
"Ventyx Network Manager was selected over other competitors due to its strong customer relationships in the region, which I believe will fundamentally drive continued growth for us in this market," said Roberto Falco, vice president, utilities Latin America, Ventyx. "The solution will help CDEC-SIC continue to improve its system reliability following significant outages which last occurred following the major earthquake in Chile in 2010."
In Uruguay, long-standing customer UTE will upgrade its previous SCADA/EMS system to Ventyx Network Manager, including the adoption of Ventyx's advanced applications focused on high-voltage network operations. The new Network Manager system will also carry out automatic generation control, in order to achieve adequate regulation of interconnected power sources, including the inherent variations that will come from wind-generation systems foreseen to be installed in the upcoming years. Because UTE is a state-owned company, responsible for generation dispatch and transmission grid operation, it is also required to meet power demands with optimal reliability, quality and cost, while protecting against potential cyber-security risks.
"The ability to demonstrate that our product and service capabilities addressed cyber-security standards, as set by North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), was particularly important for our customers in their adoption of Ventyx Network Manager," said Falco.
"Modern electric power companies are faced with evolving industry standards and market rules, in addition to ever-growing demands on operational performance. Ventyx is pleased to provide a proven, scalable smart grid solution that not only meets present demands, but will address the future needs of CDEC-SIC and UTE," said Oscar Tillberg, vice president and general manager of Ventyx Distribution Operations Solutions.
Ventyx's commitment to the market in South America is further strengthened by the company's recent establishment of a delivery center for Network Control projects in Brazil, which is chartered to support the region with highly specialized services, and includes support staff fluent in local languages and within close proximity to customers.
Ventyx Network Manager SCADA/EMS, which is a key component of the company's solution for powering smart grids, enables power utilities to optimally control and manage complex energy systems, while reducing operation costs and ensuring required levels of cyber security. With tested industry experience culled from more than 400 global installations, Network Manager applies a highly integrated approach to state-of-the-art power grid management.
