Vocational Energy Celebrates Start Up of Ace Solid Waste, Inc.'s New CNG Fueling Station
New station will fuel up to 40 CNG garbage trucks
RAMSEY, Minn., June 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Andy Schweizer is one patriotic business owner that puts his fuel where his mouth is. So when Schweizer, owner of Ace Solid Waste, Inc., had the opportunity to begin converting his 60-truck fleet of garbage trucks to clean-burning compressed natural gas [CNG], he didn't hesitate.
"It just didn't make sense anymore to send billions of our dollars every day to purchase oil from governments that are not friendly to the United States," said Schweizer, adding, "some people say CNG is a 'green' fuel, but we look at it as red, white, and blue."
The time-fill station, constructed by Vocational Energy, is configured to fuel up to 40 garbage trucks simultaneously at night, after the trucks return from their routes. The term 'time fill' refers to the fact that the trucks fill up slowly overnight without the need for an attendant to supervise – as would be the case for diesel refueling. The driver simply 'plugs' the truck in and walks away. When the tank is full, the compressor shuts off automatically.
"We chose Vocational Energy because they really understood our business and they seemed to have the best handle on alternative fuel and fueling solutions," said Schweizer.
Vocational Energy president, Scott Edelbach, is also very excited to see Ace Solid Waste take that next step. "Every one of the stations we build is special to us, and this one is no exception," said Edelbach. "Ace was committed from day one to migrate away from OPEC, and we commend them for taking that stance."
Schweizer said his plan is to migrate his entire fleet to CNG within five years, which also makes sense from a financial perspective. Natural gas is about half the price of diesel – which means Schweizer can run his fleet more profitably, while benefiting the environment and supporting national security initiatives.
He added that his customers will also notice his new CNG-powered garbage trucks are much quieter, which will be an added bonus.
